High Ground Map ("High Ground Map," "we," "us," or "our") provides climate-risk research and software for real estate. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website or use our product, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to highgroundmap.com and the High Ground Map application.
High Ground Map is a software and research product. It is not an investment adviser. Insight Personal Finance is a separate business — a California-registered investment adviser — and using High Ground Map does not engage Insight Personal Finance or create any advisory relationship. This policy covers High Ground Map only.
Information we collect
Information you give us. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and the credentials used to sign in. When you use the product, we store the property addresses you enter and the analyses you run and save, so we can provide those results back to you.
Payment information. When you purchase a subscription, our payment processor collects and handles your card and billing details directly. We do not receive or store your full card number. We receive limited billing information — such as your subscription status and the billing contact tied to your account — so we can manage your access.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, we collect basic technical and usage information: pages viewed, referring links, and general device and browser type. Our web servers also record standard log data, which can include your IP address and the time of your request, for security, debugging, and operating the service.
Cookies and analytics
We keep this simple. We use a cookie only where it is strictly necessary to keep you signed in to your account. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
For website statistics we use a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics service (Cloudflare Web Analytics). It measures aggregate traffic — such as page views and referrers — without setting cookies and without building a profile of you across websites. It processes IP addresses only transiently to count visits and does not store them for tracking.
When you view a map in the product, your browser loads map imagery from a third-party mapping provider (Esri/ArcGIS); that request is handled under that provider's terms.
How we use information
We use the information above to operate, maintain, and improve the service; to create and secure your account and authenticate you; to process payments and manage your subscription; to deliver the analyses and saved work you request; to respond to your questions; to detect and prevent fraud or abuse; and to comply with our legal obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We share information with the service providers that operate the product on our behalf — including our authentication provider (Clerk), our payment processor (Stripe), our analytics provider (Cloudflare), and our hosting and infrastructure providers. These providers may process your information only to perform services for us and are bound to protect it. We may also disclose information when required by law or valid legal process, to protect our rights, users, or the security of the service, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will continue to protect the information as described here.
How long we keep information
We keep account and usage information for as long as your account is active. When you close your account or ask us to delete your information, we delete or de-identify it within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records — such as payment and transaction records — to meet legal, accounting, or security obligations.
How we protect information
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You can review or update your account information, or ask us to delete your account and associated data, by contacting us at the address below.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under California privacy law, including the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to request access to or deletion of that information, to request correction of inaccurate information, and not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising these rights. Because we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is nothing for you to opt out of on that front. To make a request, contact us using the details below; we may need to verify your identity before we act.
Children
High Ground Map is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Where your information is handled
High Ground Map is operated in the United States, and the information we collect is processed there. If you access the service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be handled in the United States.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
